Vanity Back to Top

Vanity I made the vanity box out of melamine, edge-banded with iron-on rift-cut white oak material. The drawer fronts are rift-cut white oak 3/4" plywood, edge-banded. It's all drawers and is kitchen counter height - 36".

The top is concrete. I won't get into the whole concrete thing here except of couple of things I learned. My top is 1 1/2" thick, though most of what I'd read said to keep it 2" or 2 1/2" thick. I used a good amount of 3/8" rebar, 2 lengths through the narrow areas around the sink and loop around the through the side sections. I spray painted the rebar white to lessen the chance of it showing through my white concrete.

Any blemish in your form will show in the concrete so if you're not going to grind and polish it, make sure the melemine form surfaces are perfect and your silicone caulking is flawless; a fairly hard thing to do. I ground mine with an Alpha grinder, which worked fine.

A few Final Notes

Note that the cost of 3 holes drilled in a mirror is about the same as the mirror itself.

I'd do the wall mounted faucet again, despite it's cost: $400. I love the American Standard Champion 4; 18" high and is yet to fail me.

The window is a Marvin casement and trimmed with poplar. Outside it's trimmed with radiata pine, which is crazy expensive. I ordered the blind from Smith + Noble.
